Sunday in Paris

paristep-nedele-1.jpgBy the Seine river, close to the church Saint-Gervais Saint-Protais there is a coffee place „Le Café Louis Philippe“ with an old staircase, a relic of the initial stairs from the Eiffel tower. And by the Saint-Germain boulevard there is a coffee place with a part of the fortification from the 13th century, which was built around Paris by the king Philippe Auguste.

In the heart of Paris, in the passage „Cour du Commerce Saint André“, touching the Saint-Germain boulevard, in a restaurant, tea room and pastry place with a name „Un dimanche à Paris“ (Sunday in Paris) a waiter leads you to one of the tables around the old tower wall from 1210. This tower used to be part of the fortifications protecting Paris. You are at place where Parisian Sunday happens any day of the week.

paristep-nedele-2.jpgBesides a simple French elegance, the waitor contributes to a holiday atmosphere. One regrets to disturb by eating a perfect design of the „haute couture“ pastries. Waitor comments the pastry called „Le Frisson“ that we really will shiver while eating it. „Le Frisson“ has a light cream with a flavour of a green lemon and a touch of a mint, a biscuit with a flavour of a green lemon, little red berry candy and a drop of a raspberry with a coconut crispy biscuit.

It is complicated to choose a tea from the two pages selection, there are less pastries but the choice is also difficult. You hesitate between a vanilla cream cake „millefeuille vanille“, mango-coriander tart, or a nuts-caramel pastry. The hot chocolate „a l’ancienne“ (prepared according to a traditional recipe) is poured from about half meter height to the porcelain jars.

Behind the project and idea of creating this place is Pierre Cluzel. He wanted to show an idea that Sunday is not a day like the other days. He created a place one dreams about. „To share a happiness is to stop for a moment, discover, taste, enjoy, lick your fingers, laugh and learn a chocolate poem.“

paristep-nedele-3.jpgRestaurant with a tea room is located at this place since 2011. The fortification tower, around which are located the tables, is inhabited by a private person. The entrance to the apartment is in the yard of an old aristocratic house „Hôtel de Rohan“ and its the inside of the tower is covered by a masonry.

When we ask the waitor if we can pay, he answers „unfortunately yes“.
